– Onyango has not taken part in Gor Mahia’s training sessions for almost two weeks now
– The towering defender is allegedly yet to receive his salary of three months
– He missed Gor’s weekend KPL clash against Kariobangi Sharks
Gor Mahia assistant captain Joash Onyango who went AWOL is reportedly too broke to attend the club’s training sessions.
Onyango, alongside teammate and club captain Kenneth Muguna have stayed away from training for two weeks now.
The absence of the duo is understood to have left Gor head coach Steven Polack fuming, before resolving to appoint Joachim Oluoch and Charles Momanyi as captains of the side on interim basis.
It has however emerged Onyango can no longer afford trips to training as he is yet to be paid his salary for three months.
“He will not attend training because he cannot afford to,” a source divulged to Nairobi News.
“The club is in dire financial straits and he has not received his salary for three months. He has a family to take care of and bills to pay. I don’t think someone who has failed to pay you for that while can demand an explanation as to your absence,” the source added.
On his part, Muguna is said to have informed the club’s top brass of his imminent absence as he was away attending to personal matters.
Both Muguna and Onyango were in action for Harambee Stars during the team’s 1-0 international friendly defeat to Mozambique at Kasarani Stadium played on Sunday, October 13.
