Sadio Mane is upbeat ahead of facing the next test in Senegal’s quest to be crowned African champions when they battle Uganda on Friday, July 5, at the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.
The Lions of Teranga however still have a long hard road ahead of them despite having breezed through to the last 16 alongside Algeria Group C, at the expense of Kenya and Tanzania.
And now ahead of the mega showdown between the Cranes and Senegal, the Liverpool ace charged his squad with ensuring they deliver their best performance yet in the showpiece.
“We saw the kind of football they played against Egypt and they are a very good side. We must be at our best against Uganda,” Mane declared in the pre-match press conference.
The English Premier League Golden Boot winner would like to extend his sublime scoring form onto AFCON and badly wants to win his country its first continental cup.
Having already found himself joint-leading scorer along with 10 other players including teammate Mohamed Salah, the skipper is well on track to making history with his country.
“I will try to score more goals and help my teammates score so that we can finally win this cup,” he added.
Mane missed out on the first game against Tanzania while serving his suspension.
Aliou Cisse’s men lock horns with the Cranes at 10pm East African Time at the Cairo International Stadium for a spot in the quarterfinals.
It will be Senegal’s’ third East African nation in the 32nd edition after they thrashed Tanzania (2-0) and Kenya (3-0) at the group stage of the biennial tournament.
